So, John and I had a little vacation this weekend. Actually, as of the date of this post we’re still here in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. We’ve been staying at the very nice guest house called Silver Lake Guest House. I highly recommend it; it;s right across the street from the lake, and just a 5 minute walk from Poodle Beach (right on the opposite side of the lake), one of the Gay beaches out here.
We came down because our friend Dennis is on a soccer team and they were having some kind of regional tournament this weekend. We shared an apartment here at the Silver Lake Guest House with him and another soccer friend of his, Steve.
Thursday afternoon we got into town and got settled. I had a VERY important phone call at 4PM, but I’ll tell you all about that in another post… depending on what results from it
We hit the beach for just a few moments, but the cloudy skies made it just a tad bit too chilly for long-term beaching. We went for dinner that evening, and afterwards the boys went off for drinks and dancing while I went back to our apartment and played a little City of Heroes. Turns out going home was a great idea because the skies opened up and it poured rain for about 20 minutes. And it just so happened that it was within that 20 minute window that the boys were walking home! Hahahahahaha… I got a good laugh out of seeing them soaking wet
Friday it was overcast and it would sprinkle from time to time, so we all hit the outlets!
John and I spent far more than we should have, but are happy with what we bought. That evening we ran into more soccer buddies, and went to dinner again, and this time I stuck around for one drink (not for me, but for John) and then John and I went back to the apartment while Dennis, Steve, and random soccer buddies went around town.
Saturday was the first day of the tournament. Dennis and Steve got an early start out to the field, and John and I followed a few hours later to watch some of the games. I’m telling you, Gay Soccer really should be televised. It’s MUCH more interesting to watch than regular soccer
“That’s what short-shorts are for, gurrl!” … “Ooooo, your mascara’s starting to run!” Too much fun.
Saturday night I was planning on calling my friends Dan and Paul, who live in the area, and get together with them. An accident at the soccer field, however, found poor Steve with a twisted ankle and needing to be taken care of. With an apartment full of gay guys, there was no shortage of mothering, let me assure you. Ice-packs and elevation and ibuprofen, oh my! Dennis had to leave to attend the soccer function that night, so John and I stuck around to keep poor Steve entertained while he was bed-ridden. We watched lots of movies on the ABC-Family channel.
Sunday morning (today) we woke to a rather rude surprise. Poor Steve’s ankle was even worse than the night before. It was swollen even more, and now he couldn’t put any weight on it at all. To the hospital!! Dennis had more games in the tournament to play, so John and I loaded the crippled Steve into the Mini and sped off to the emergency room. It’s a little after 5PM as I write this, and Steve is probably still in surgery. Yep, you read that right: surgery. Turns out he broke his ankle very close to the joint. So close, in fact, that they don’t trust it to heal correctly on its own, so they’re putting in pins to make sure that the bone knits back the right way the first time. Fun.
We leave to come back home tomorrow, Monday. Who knows what fun and exciting things will happen between now and then!

Well, I’m about to head off. I’m picking up my Grandmother and then she and I are flying down to Lampasas, Texas for almost a week.
I have family down there, and my cousin is graduating. I’ve never been to Texas (therefore I only see them when they come up to visit) so I figured this would be a nice time to go see them on their own turf.
This is my mother’s sister, her husband, and their kids (just in case you were wondering how it fit on the family tree ;)). My mom and dad are already down there. They left last week and spent three days driving down there (pulling something like 18 hours on the road each day… crazy, but they made it!). Luckily for my grandma and me there is an ex-military airport near where they live so we can avoid the horrors of big city traffic. Thank God for small favors, eh?
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing the family and getting to experience their home for the first time. I’m sure my cousins are going to show me a good time
I hear a rumor that there’s a movie theater not too far from their home! JOY!

I finally got my pictures from Argentina and Brazil up on the web. Unfortunately, none of the video clips i took are available yet… but I’m sure these pictures will be boring enough
hehe
Click on any of these to be taken to the web galleries. Note that the albums are in reverse order, for some reason. Day 1 is at the very bottom.

I spent the last month in Argentina and Brazil with the choir and orchestra. I had such a wonderful time!

We left from New York on May 29th and arrived in Argentina on the 30th. From there, it was a wirl-wind adventure of long bus rides, music-making, wonderful people, and games of Mafia and Winkum. My favorate part of the trip was Argentina, hands down. The people there are so warm and friendly. The language is just beautiful! They speak a particular dialect of spanish that is very lyrical… i loved listing to it. I very much would like to vacation regularly in Argentina. Thus, I have made it a goal of mine to learn spanish now

We moved into Brazil on June 11th. We saw the falls at Iguazu.. they were spectacular! I encurage everyone to see them at least once in their lives! We spent a few days in Sao Paulo and Rio. Lucly for us we had only one concert in Rio and got to spend the rest of the time exploring the city and laying on the beach. My step-father is from Brazil, so there was an extra layer of enjoyment for me in getting to visit his home country. As in Argentina, the people in Brazil were very friendly. In Rio, however, I advise travelers to be careful… there were five members of our group who got mugged over the 4 days we were in Rio. Word to the wize, don’t venture out alone at night.
We got back to the States on Friday the 23rd. It was very hard coming back… i had such a wonderful time, and after spending such a long time with friends in close quarters, we became even closer and more like a big family. It will take some time adjusting to not being around the same group 24 hours a day.
The biggest joy for me was in how much the people appriciated the music we brought them, and the ministry that we represented. This is why I continue to be a part of these organizations: the ministry of music. There were times when I was moved to tears becuase of the overwhelming power that was radiating between us and the congrigations.
It wasn’t all fun and games though. There were times when there were 15 guys sharing two showers, and we had to be on the bus at 7:00 AM … not fun. Oh, and lets not forget about the Turkish Toilets and the inability to flush toilet paper .. [shiver]. Yes.. these things I shall not miss.

At the moment I am sitting in an Internet Cafe accross the street from the Universidad Adventista del Plata in Libertador San MartÃn, Entre RÃos, Argentina.
I have to be quick… this is an Adventist town and everything shuts down at sunset. We have a conert this evening at vespers, and then again in the morning for church. So far I have loved everything about this country! With each city that we go to, I love it more and more!
We will be in Brazil on the 11th. So far we have only had one horrible night. We slept in these little cabins at some campsite in the andies. It was freezing cold. We had a tiny wood stove that would only last for about 20 minutes. We were supposed to stay there for two nights, but there was such an uproar by all the musicians that we stayed the second night in a hotel instead. Bonus.
I still have not had a chance to do laundry. I am rather upset. Most of the girls are getting to stay in peoples homes tonight, and wil be able to. The guys are all staying on campus, where the laundry facilities are all already closed for sabbath, and the two facilities in town cannot get stuff back to us until Sunday. So i will have to make due for another few days at least… sigh…
I have to get going now. I have lots of pictures!!! I will post them once i get back to the states.
