I bought the complete TV series of FireFly the other day. I’m about halfway through it now, since there was only one season. I have to say, with each episode I watch my anger at the FOX executives grows stronger and stronger.

This was a fantastic series written by Joss Whedon (of “Buffy” and “Angel” fame), who has a remarkable vision of humanity’s future. Some of things i think are the best in this series are the things that they don’t bother to explain.. they are just presented as a part of ‘our’ future. For example, in Whedon’s future the two primary languages of humanity (in all parts of the universe) are English and Chinese. He doesn’t say why, it just is. So every once in a while you get someone swearing in Chinese, i think its great.

What really pisses me off is that the FOX executives decided, in their brilliance, to air the show completely out of order. The very first episode that was aired was, in reality, the third show in the story’s timeline. Yeah, how’s that for jumping into the middle of a conversation. This show could have had such a great future. They characters are wonderfully written, the stories are interesting and compelling, and the mix of technology and pionierism that he gives us actually works!

The show has been such a great underground hit, that there is a movie coming out at the end of September. The movie is called Serenity, which is the name of the ship (It is a FireFly Class ship, thus the name of the series). Check out their website: http://www.serenitymovie.com/
